✨ The Crystal Dragon

High in the northern mountains—where the snow never fully melts and the wind sings through ice like a silver flute—there lived a dragon unlike any other. Her name was Aurelia, and her scales were made not of stone or steel but of crystal—clear as frozen water, shimmering in colors no painter could capture.

Aurelia was not large like the mountain dragons nor fierce like the fire-breathing ones. Instead, she glowed softly, like lantern light inside a winter storm. The old stories said she was born from a single teardrop shed by the Moon when it first glimpsed the Earth. Whether that was true or not, Aurelia carried a quiet, ancient magic.

A Lonely Guardian

Aurelia guarded the Glacier of Echoes, a place where sound traveled in strange ways, carrying whispers of the past. Her job was to keep the glacier from cracking, for inside it was sealed the lost memories of the world—songs, stories, and forgotten dreams.

But guarding meant solitude. And solitude meant loneliness.

From her icy perch she watched travelers passing far below—tiny figures, bundled in furs, unaware that a dragon watched with gentle curiosity.

A Boy in the Snow

One evening, as the sky blushed violet, Aurelia heard something unusual: crying.

It came from a small boy lost in a snowstorm, barely a flicker of warmth against the frozen ground. The world around him was white and silent, and he had curled into himself, waiting for a cold sleep that never ends.

Aurelia moved without thinking. Her wings didn’t beat—they hummed, slicing through the air like glass in motion. She wrapped the boy in her warm, glowing tail and shielded him from the storm.

His eyes fluttered open, wide with fear… until he saw her shimmering face.

“You’re… beautiful,” he whispered.

It had been centuries since anyone had spoken to her.

The Secret of the Glacier

The boy, named Eryn, had been separated from his family. He came from a village that believed the Crystal Dragon was a monster who stole voices and froze the hearts of wanderers.

Eryn quickly learned the truth.

Aurelia did not steal voices—she saved them.

She let him touch the Glacier of Echoes, and when he laid his hand on its surface, he heard something incredible: his mother’s voice, singing the lullaby she always used when he was scared.

He cried again—but this time with hope.

A Warm Light in the Cold

Aurelia carried Eryn on her back across mountains, valleys, and sparkling fields of snow. Her wings cast rainbows across the sky, a soft beacon for anyone searching.

And indeed, his family saw the shifting lights.

When they found him, they bowed—not in fear, but in gratitude.

The villagers returned home with a new tale: the Crystal Dragon was a protector, not a threat.

And for the first time in centuries, Aurelia was no longer alone.

A New Beginning

From that day on, children of the mountain villages traveled to the Glacier of Echoes to press their palms against the ice and hear the voices of those they missed.

Aurelia watched over them all, her heart glowing brighter each year.

And sometimes—only sometimes—when the moon hung low and full, she heard a familiar lullaby echo back to her, from the glacier she had guarded all her life.

A song from the Moon who once shed a tear for the Earth.

A reminder that even a lonely guardian can find her place in the world.
